Learn to Sail at Largs Bay Sailing Club (LBSC)

LBSC is a Discover Sailing Centre staffed by qualified instructors and coaches. We aim to introduce kids and adults to the sport of sailing, in a safe and enjoyable on water environment. Courses include: Tackers (Ages 4-12), Start Sailing Courses (All Ages 12+), 'Out There Sailing' for teens (Ages 12-17) & School Holiday Programs (Ages 7-17)

Training Overview

Sail training runs all year round and is a fun, dynamic way for new and developing sailors, like you, to build skills, confidence and a love of the sport. Each session is designed to be engaging, supportive and hands-on, with a strong focus on learning by doing. Check the club training calendar for all upcoming courses and training opportunities.

During the sailing season (October - April) LBSC runs our junior programs almost every Saturday! Our Saturday session run between 9:15am and 11:45am.

Little Tackers (Ages 4-6)⛵️

Fun & Games in the shallows for 4-6 year-olds.

Tackers (Ages 7-12)⛵️

Tackers is a fun introductory, games-based sailing program designed for kids aged 7-12 years-old. Kids don’t need to have any sailing experience or club membership to participate.

OutThere Sailing (Ages 12-17)⛵️

OutThere Sailing is a program that has been specifically designed for teenagers from 12 to 17 years old. OutThere Sailing is perfect for teens who want to try sailing in a non-competitive, social and fun setting (leave your homework onshore)!

Your Discover Sailing journey starts here as you learn the fundamental skills of sailing and are introduced to the fun of dinghy sailing in a safe and supportive environment.

Not sure which program is right for you?

If you are unsure which course is right for you, or you want to see if you or your child (or both!)will love sailing as much as we do, LBSC offer two different trial options for you to get a taste of sailing. (We guarentee once you do, you will never be able to stop), and best of all its free for Tackers and only $50pp for our Discover Sailing Experience!

Discover Sailing Experience (Ages 5 & Up)⛵️

Discover Sailing Days are offered at many participating sailing clubs around Australia. They are a fantastic way to have a great day out with your partner, friends, work colleagues or family. Clubs look forward to showing you just how fun, safe, accessible, and affordable sailing is.

You’ll have the option to go out for a short sail with an experienced sailor, have a look around the club facilities, and find out about the programs and sailing courses available. There is something for the whole family and even kids as young as five years old can sail, when accompanied by a parent or guardian. People of all abilities are welcome and some clubs offer accessible facilities for people with a disability.

Discover Sailing Experiences are $25pp to attend and all boats and safety equipment is provided by the club. All you need to bring is clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting wet, sun screen and a hat. Shoes with non-marking soles are preferred.

*Ages 5 to 7 require a parent or guardian to complete the experience with them

Tackers Come & Try (Ages 4-12)⛵️

If you are looking for something awsome for your children to participate in, our 2 free Tackers Come & Try sessions are a must. Fun & Games in the shallows for 4-6 year-olds and a fun introductory, games-based sailing experiance for kids ages 7-12. No sailing experiance is required but water confidence is manditory.

*Parents are required to remain at the club during the session

Class Performance and Coaching Programs

LBSC coaches offer high-performance coaching for youth sailors ready to push their limits and step up their racing. These programs sharpen advanced boat handling, race tactics, and class-specific set-up, giving sailors the edge needed to perform at their best.

Squad coaching is designed for sailors competing at club level and targeting State, National and other major regattas. Programs are formed in response to expressions of interest and tailored to suit the goals of each squad.

Optimist Green Fleet Program ⛵️

Green Fleet is an introduction to coaching and learning to train. Green Fleet promotes practicing the fundamental skills of sailing, introduces some foundation race skills through training activities in an environment that is enjoyable, without a competition focus.
