Sail Training

Training and Coaching Programs at LBSC

Largs Bay Sailing Club (LBSC) offers a range of sail training and coaching programs to suit the needs of beginners, intermediate and serious racing sailors.  The club charges a program fee plus we require that all participants in our youth programs must be a financial  "Youth Member" of LBSC.

Training is held on Saturday mornings commencing at 9:15 am. The first session each season usually begins on the third week of October - the weekend after the season Opening Day.  Training activities will end at about 11:45 am, so that those sailors who wish may have lunch before sailing in the afternoon club races.

On arrival at the club, all participants should report to the Registration Desk on the balcony in front of the sailing club to register their attendance.

Sailors will be grouped according to skills and experience and coaches will be allocated to each group before the boats go on the water each week.

For insurance purposes, all sailors participating in Sail Training Programs shall be members of LBSC.
We require that your child become a club member, if they wish to participate in a training program.
Please complete a membership form and pay the "Youth Sailing Membership" fee.

Visit the Membership Information webpage to read more about membership and to Register on-line

This season Largs will continue our TACKERS Learn to Sail Program.  "Tackers" is a nationally accredited program developed by Australian Sailing aimed at introducing children (up to 12 years) to the sport and developing their skills to the level where they can participate in our Optimist Green and International Cadet fleets.

The program fee includes instructors and use of an Ozi Opti training boat - just wear suitable sailing clothing. The Tackers courses include approximately 16 hours of tuition; 8 sessions prior to Christmas and 8 sessions in the new year.  Participants will be awarded a certificate of completion for the Tackers 1, Tackers 2 and Tackers 3 programs after they complete each course.

Our club coaches provide training for youth sailors at all levels to help them to improve their sailing and tactical skills so they may participate in racing at the Club, plus compete in State and other major regattas.

These courses are provided for sailors at the following levels

  • Optimist Green Fleet for sailors wishing to improve their sailing skills and join the racing fleet.
  • International Cadet Fleet for sailors participating in racing at Largs Bay and at State level.
  • International 420 for sailors participating in racing at Largs Bay and at State level.
