LARGS BAY SAILING CLUB OPTIMIST GREEN FLEET

Our Green Fleet program is a higher level of sailing education and experience for those students who have completed their Tackers programs. Our weekly sessions are designed to upskill our juniors with their friends, helping them progress together.

Trained by our highly experienced and qualified instructors, we encorporate:

  • A detailed and structured learning course
  • A gentle and safe approach. Meaning no students are pushed past their individual skill and confidence level.
  • Building long lasting friendships
  • Parent involvement. Help with loading, unloading boats etc. Students watching parents work collectively sets a good example for them.
  • Club Opti boats available until students and partents decide to purchase their own.

Our Saturday Morning Program runs over 16 weeks, including 2 Terms.

Term 1: October 17th 2026 to 5th December 2026
Term 2: 30th January 2027 to 3rd April 2027
(excluding 6th March for LWE & 27th March for EASTER)

Age: Dependent on skill level and confidence. Discuss with your instructor.

The total cost for this course is $220 (sports vouchers accepted)

NOTE: Sports vouchers must be attached at the time of registration to be accepted.

(Please note: Green fleet participants must also have a Largs Bay Sailing Club membership - details below)

Spots on our Green Fleet program are limited so that we can provide a high level of support. Each child progresses at their own pace with no pressure to go outside of their limits. We focus on building a solid foundation and understanding of sailing rules, etiquette, and skills, which builds their self confidence and pride in a supported environment.

This is a self paced program. Those sailors wanting to compete will have great opportunities during this program, some include:

  • Frost Bite Regatta
  • Spring Clinic
  • Girls Clinic
  • National Championships, and more.

If sailors choose to continue to progress, we have our Intermediate Fleet that focuses more heavily on racing. Our team of coaches can work with your child to help them attain their goals and aspirations within the sport of sailing.

Program Focus:

Green Fleet is an introduction to coaching and learning to train.

Green Fleet promotes practicing the fundamental skills of sailing, introduces some foundation race skills through training activities in an environment that is enjoyable, without a competition focus.
